Master Plan |
||
More than a decade ago, the National Shrine of the Little Flower undertook a master planning process, which engaged hundreds of parish community who donated thousands of hours in determining the direction of the parish. The resulting plan will allow us to come together to worship, serve and support each other for years to come. |

History of the Master Plan In the late 1990’s, the National Shrine of the Little Flower began developing a facilities master plan for its schools and parish. For nearly two years, a committee of parishioners and school parents conducted a parish-wide needs assessment of the facilities on its three locations: the church and rectory, the grade school campus and the 13 Mile Road campus including Shrine Catholic Academy and Shrine Catholic High School. Using the resulting needs assessment document, the committee retained IDS Architects to develop the National Shrine’s Master Plan.

In the fall of 2002 the Master Plan was shared with the parish, school parents, alumni and friends of the National Shrine and its schools to determine if the architects’ recommendations met the needs of the faith community and what changes should be made to improve the plan. The process also challenged the community to evaluate and recommend new programs and ministries to strengthen parish life and the quality of education provided. Finally, the teams of parishioners were asked to recommend which components of the facilities master plan should be undertaken first and what new ministries and programs should be introduced. The consensus was that major additions to each of the three campuses should be undertaken immediately. The parishioners recommended that a Master Plan Oversight Committee be appointed to ensure the follow through on the prioritization process recommendations, completion of the construction projects and the campaign. With All Our Strength: The Campaign for the National Shrine gave every parishioner and Shrine Catholic High School graduate the opportunity to participate in the expansion and renovation of National Shrine of the Little Flower parish and schools. The campaign began with families that have supported the parish and high school financially and continued until all registered families in the parish were contacted throughout 2003.
