On September 30, 2014, the National Shrine of the Little Flower held the first “Little Way” Award event which recognized our former beloved pastor, Fr. Edward Prus, and national speaker and pro-life advocate Deby Sansone-Schlapprizzi.
We are currently accepting nominations for the National Shrine of the Little Flower, ‘Little Way’ Award to be presented on September 30, 2015 at the St. Therese Feast Day event.
The nominees must be a member of the Shrine Family: parishioner, alumnus, current or past parent and/or benefactor. The nominee should be someone that has made a significant contribution to the Catholic Church and to the United States and is deserving of this recognition. They must also exemplify some of the characteristics of St. Therese listed below.
What is the meaning of “the little way” of St. Therese? It is an image that tries to capture her understanding of being a disciple of Jesus Christ, of seeking holiness of life in the ordinary and the everyday.
“I will spend my heaven doing good on earth. I will let fall a shower of roses.”
St. Therese translated “the little way” in terms of a commitment to the tasks and to the people we meet in our everyday lives. Therese’s spirituality is of doing the ordinary, with extraordinary love. She lived each day with an unshakable confidence in God’s love. “What matters in life,” she wrote, “is not great deeds, but great love.” Recognize that each day is a gift, in which your life can make a difference by the way you choose to live it. Put hope in a future in which God will be all and love will consume your spirit. Choose life, not the darkness of pettiness and greed. St. Therese knew the difference love makes by allowing love to be the statement she made each day of her life.
