Confirmation

Through Confirmation, you receive a special outpouring of the Holy Spirit. You will be filled with the Holy Spirit as the Apostles were on the day of Pentecost! The Sacrament of Confirmation will unite you more firmly to Christ and increase the gifts of the Holy Spirit in your life.

Please note that adults seeking the Sacrament of Confirmation are invited to call the parish office at (248) 541-4122 to begin their formation process.

For young people, Confirmation at the National Shrine is usually received in the spring of eighth grade year after two years of preparation. Our Confirmation preparation program aims to lead candidates to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church, so that young people are ready to receive the power of the Holy Spirit.

Please note that those who attend Shrine Catholic Schools or another Catholic school in the area will still need to register for Confirmation preparation with the Religious Formation Office because sacraments are received from the parish.

What is the process for a young person who is preparing for Confirmation at Shrine?

• Attend Mass regularly on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation
• Connect with a mentor for an intake interview over the summer months
• Submit your registration forms, indicating where you will receive your primary formation (Shrine Family Catechism, Shrine Catholic Academy, or elsewhere)
• Join your peers for a Kick-Off Retreat in September
• Serve Jesus through the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy
• Connect with others by attending at least two Crossroads Middle School Youth Ministry events
• Choose a Confirmation Saint and submit a brief paper on this
• Choose a Confirmation Sponsor
• Join your peers for a final Confirmation Retreat and receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation ahead of your Confirmation day.
